Know How To Let It Go
[ShadowScene]
Major Lazer have been blowing up spots for some time now. They've recently announced a number of dates in North American for this summer after which they'll be headed to the UK for an appearance at the Isle of Wight Festival. Check out this recent track they made which features the autotune baby.

New York I Love You
[Hobo Gestapo]
It is impossible to put into words the connection that one develops with a city. For some it is just a workplace, for others it is a home, and for many it is a lifestyle. For us, provided our limited experience, there isn't any city that we love more than New York (Paris, Hong Kong, and Tokyo we still need to check you guys out, and London and San Francisco we love you too). So when we start feeling homesick the first thing we do is turn to our favorite NYC artists to fill us with that East Coast vibration. This re-edit comes from one of our faves, In Flagranti, and takes the 12 minute track "For Your Love" by the German outfit Chilly and compresses it into 4 minutes of banging disco.

Gotta give a shout out to my current locale, too! Check out one of Chi-city's finest blogs, Redthreat, who just posted three killer tracks that I highly recommend picking up.

Freeland
[Freeland]
After one listen of Freeland's track "Under Control" this group of Brits has earned a major spot on our radar. The song's mix of rock and electro is something that we've seen a lot of lately, but Freeland demonstrate such a mastery of the electronic aspect (massive synths!) that they stand out as an exemplar among their genre. They'll be on tour throughout North America over the next few weeks, including stops in Washington, DC, New York, Montreal, Toronto, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. You can also preorder their new album, Cope (June 2009), over at Freeland.fm.

Desire
[Italians Do It Better]
Johnny Jewel of Italians Do it Better, Glass Candy, and The Chromatics recently completed an EP with vocalist Megan Louise for their new project, Desire. The group's sound is, as per usual with Jewel, heavily influenced by Italo disco of the 1970's and 80's, but is a bit lighter and more refined than his previous work. Check out our favorite track, "If I Can't Hold You", and be sure to jump over to Discodust for the rest of the five-track EP.

Excuse Me
[Hobo Gestapo]
We feel the need to apologize after yesterday's hiccup. We don't really know what happened. Something just kinda came out. Anyways, we are sorry and it shouldn't happen again. Moving on, for all the kids in Chicago that can never get enough strobe lights and face paint, Heartsrevolution will be playing at Sonotheque this Friday (RSVP here).
In other news, Lollapalooza announced the line-up for 2009 and we are excited for all those DJ sets!

[The Streethearts]
Coachella may have finished up last night with sets from My Bloody Valentine, The Cure, Public Enemy, Etienne De Crecy, and The Kills, but the best thing in the news today for us is Edwin Van Cleef's remix of Bat For Lashes' "Daniel". This track uses sweeping synths and a slow rolling arpeggio to build an epic dancefloor banger.

[Dance On Party On]
We've been trying to expand our universe here at B&T. So, we thought that it would be a good idea to see whats going on in other people's worlds. For this we turned to our favorite source for randomly aggregated news on the internet Digg.com. Though we're still intending to check out the Digg Dialogg with Trent Reznor we did find these articles interesting in the meantime: Russian man sprouts fir tree in lung, Neil Young converts 1959 Lincoln Continental to a zero emission vehicle, Ray Kurzweil discusses The Singularity, and Egypt finds 4,000 year old mummies.
Speaking of expanding around here, we've recently made some new additions to the Blog Roll by making friends with Sheena Beaston, Tastes Like Caramel, The Music Slut, and Cream Team. So, be sure to check them out for more music and news!

Mad Decent's recently remixed "Quicksand" by La Roux is available to stream via RCRD LBL and for download at Amazon. The track opens with a light synth build up that falls away to reveal a sleek disco banger with airy melodies, echoed synths, and crisp percussion everywhere. A bit of a departure compared to what Mad Decent usually works with, but then maybe not. Also, check out Beatport for a Lifelike remix of La Roux's "In For the Kill".

Zoe from BigMethod wrote an excellent analysis of how music bloggers use Twitter. With insights from Bangers and Trash, Discobelle, Sheena Beaston, Spinner, and The Culture of Me the article details the way in which Twitter has leveled the playing field for the music industry by creating an arena where execs and interns are given an equal voice with a 140 character limit. Check it out here.
The Great Ecstasy Of...
The Great Ecstasy of James Rutledge (Lo Alternative Frequencies: March 16, 2009) isn't a dance-floor album. With two tracks, both clocking in at over 20 minutes, its an experience of synthetic environments and oscillating ambiences. Its available in digital and cassette.
If you're missing the backbeat, though, James Rutledge has you covered, too. He's recently released a remix for Esser's track "Headlock" and is working on remixes for Bombay Bicycle Club and Fever Ray.

German prodcers ULTRNX have been on my radar since last year when they they won the Digitalism Remix Contest. It appears that they've been working hard since then and have put together a number of banging originals that can be found on their myspace. Most recently, however, they've released a remix for True Pseudo's track "Freaking Me Out". This is an epic remix, with huge distorted synths and glitched vocals. I only have a sample for you, but you can get buy the full track over at Beatport.
