Seb | News For You

UK recording artist, Seb, recently shared with us his track, News For You, along with a remix from the Korean artist,  Lovetrance. The remix replaces lush strings with ravey synth stabs and sweeping high filters to compliment Seb's soulful vocals. You can check out the video for News For You here and be sure to visit Seb at myspace to hear songs from his forthcoming debut album.

The King of Pop is Dead

R.I.P. Michael Joseph Jackson
8/29/58 - 6/25/09

There were few that rivaled Jackson - Elvis Presley, John Lennon being the only ones that comes to mind - and we suspect that there will be even fewer people to come close to achieving a legacy of similar greatness. The music will never die and for that we will be forever grateful.

Summer is here and with it has come a packed calendar of concerts, festivals, and parties. This past week was full of free events like the Dirty Projectors and The Sea and Cake in Millenium Park, a Hornitos sponsored event featuring performances from Yacht, Hollywood Holt, and Millon Dolla Mano, and a Red Stripe sponsored event featuring performances from Terry Lynn and Johan Hugo. Due to our dedication to live music (and free drinks) we've had very little time to write lately. So, this post will be a recap of the blogworthy news and tracks of the past week. But first, dig on this Yacht track, Summer Song, from their upcoming album See Mystery Lights.

Last week, Brooklyn's Holy Ghost released another original track from their upcoming debut album. I Will Come Back is a mid-tempo disco jam with fluttering melodies, a super-catchy vocal hook, and airy harmonies - compliments of the Brooklyn Youth Chorus. Check out Holy Ghost's myspace for more music and news, and be sure to hit up Green Label Sound for a few behind-the-scenes videos from the duo.

Rex the Dog's remix of Fever Ray's Triangle Walks was recently released. The track comes in both an extended and radio edit version - both of which can be found at Deathelectro. The  remix compliments Karin Dreijer's eerie vocals with dark 80's-vice sounding production brightened by steel drum synths. You can check out Fever Ray on tour throughout Europe this summer and North America this Fall and be sure to check out Rex the Dog's myspace for more music and news.

Trash Yourself | Kids At The Bar

Trash Yourself's latest remix of Automatic Panic's Louder is a high-paced electro rush full of turbines, blips, and big back-beats. Be sure to check out Trash Yourself's myspace for a number of tourdates in North America.

Automatic Panic :: Louder (Trash Yourself Remix)

Kids at the Bar recently remixed Trash Yourself and Toxic Avenger's Die. The track features a low resonant bass under fast synth stabs and Heidi Cannon's chopped vocals. The track breaks into a melodic bridge at 1:43 that is a brilliant compliment to the repetitious assault of bass and vocals. Be sure to check out Kids at the Bar's myspace for more music and news.

Slash Fiction X Peaches

Los Angeles' Slash Fiction recently reworked Peaches' I Don't Want To Lose You. The  original  produced by Simian Mobile Disco is a dark, disco-tinged rally around the chorus, which happens to be the name of the song. For the remix, Slash Fiction raised the track out of the depths of despair by utilizing consistent bouncing synths in the bass and melody that give the track a determined Italo feel. Be sure to check out Slash Fiction's myspace for more music and news.

RCMP

Philly-based nu-disco duo RCMP (comprised of Relative Q and Philadelphyinz' DJ Apt One) released their debut EP last week in vinyl format on Flamin Hotz Records. Their latest single, Ibiza, PA, is an upbeat, rave-tinged disco gem - just one of a handful of dancefloor killers they've concocted in the past year. You can pick up a copy of the vinyl through Flamin' Hotz and several other spots, or wait a few months for the Beatport digital release. In the meantime, check out all their originals on the RCMP myspace, and if you're wondering what RCMP stands for, so are we, but be sure to check out the EP Promo Mix because a few interesting possibilities are tossed out in the intro.

Vektorkat

Hailing from Rhône-Alpes, the three members of Vektorkat craft highly danceable electro that is unmistakeably French, yet is clever enough to avoid any tags of derivation. As a result, Vektorkat have recently been making a big impact on the small scene of highly regarded club music bloggers (like DeathElectro, ElectroCorp, and VoulesRandom) with their extensive repertoire of remixes and originals. Check out their smoothly spastic remix of Mr. Oizo's Positif, which includes one of our favorite moments of dubstep at 2:27, and their heroic electro anthem Without You Girl below and be sure to check out Vektorkat's myspace for more music and news.

AutoRock X Deleted Scenes

AutoRock, a Washington, DC, based DJ and producer, is quickly becoming a regular fixture in the blogospere with a number of recent top-notch remixes and mixtapes. Talented to say the least, we actually feel that AutoRock's most distinguishing characteristic is his taste in tracks to remix. From The Supremes to Outputmessage, AutoRock is able to take any track and make it his own. His remix of Deleted Scene's Ithaca is no exception. This track is a laidback disco burner with a fat bass, crisp pianos, and a powerful vocal sample. Be sure to check out AutoRock's myspace for more music and news.

Cryptonites | Boots Electric EP

image via myspace

Switzerland's Cryptonites are back in the blogosphere with their latest release, the Boots Electric EP (Destruction Music: August, 2009). Featuring three originals and a remix from Saint Pauli, the EP  picks up where Hands of God left off by moving towards bigger synths, catchier hooks, and heavier beats. At the moment, the duo seems to be living up to their reputation of elusiveness, with only a handful of gigs  announced for this summer. So, be sure to show them some love at the Cryptonites myspace and keep and eye out for more music and news.

Turbo EP

via myspace

Burns' Turbo EP will be released July 20th on 21-12 Records. Two videos were made - an original and a remix - by Thomas Bachellier using footage from, the breakdance classic, Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo. The remix, by Ottawa's Jokers Of The Scene, is only a sampling of the grimey bass and high octane synths of the original, but it, too, has enough force to destroy any dance floor (see 3:18). Check out Burns and Jokers Of The Scene at myspace for more music, news, and tour info.

Won't You Come Down

Dan Sena recently released his remix of N.A.S.A.'s Way Down. The track opens as a slow piano ballad that builds in anticipation while the bridge insists: "Don't ask me where I've been." A kick is added for the second verse as the song seems to hit its stride, but it drops out quickly for a section of panning breaks and synth crescendos that explodes into a heavy distorted bass line and back beat. From here the track continues with a huge left turn, but I don't want to spoil it for you. Check out Dan Sena's and N.A.S.A.'s myspaces for more news and music.

Patrick Wolf X Buffetlibre

The Buffetlibre DJ's recently shared with us their remix of Who Will by Patrick Wolf. The track opens with a light trance synth which builds along a praise-like verse of singing voices until exploding into a filter-filled frenzy. However, the fun doesn't last long and after a quick verse and chorus the track drops away for a build-up of synth strings that gives way to the most exciting moments. Be sure to check out the Buffetlibre DJ's myspace for more news and tourdates

The Gift of R O B

Parisian artist, ROB, is teaming up with Institubes for a unique creative experience which will see the release of a new album each month for the next year in the creation of the Dodecalogue. The inspiration for the project is ecclesiastical and the sample provided at ROB's myspace is a compelling track that excites us to the idea of baroque-electro.

The albums can be purchased through a subscription service here and will be available in digital and vinyl formats. You can also catch up with Rob as he shares keyboard duties with the guys from Phoenix on their international tour.
