Introducing: Ghøstkick

Hard at work on their first album, Seven Deadly Synths, Los Angeles duo Ghøstkick made their debut on Beatport last week with their track "Lust." The track is an impressive mashup of styles and techniques from trance, house, and dubstep, however, with stuttering synths, shimmering arpeggios, and uplifting vocals the song has a pop sensibility that places it within the realms of nu-disco. Check out a preview of "Lust" below and hop over to Beatport to pick up the full version. Ghøstkick is also holding a remix competition for "Lust" with details to be found here.

The prior two singles from Seven Deadly Synths, "Pride" and "Envy," can be found on iTunes and feature the production skills of collaborator D. LEE.

Half Asleep Upon Echo Falls

Whistle Peak's forthcoming album Half Asleep Upon Echo Falls (Karate Body: Feb. 2012) has been in a steady rotation since it came across my radar. This may, in part, be due to the album's exceptional ability to help me forget a hangover. But it also seemed felicitous to come across this album as the days are getting colder and the nights longer. Upon hearing the single "Wings Won't Behave," my initial thought was that I had found my top album for this winter. With clever songwriting, touches of psychedelia, and a sound like AM radio Half Asleep Upon Echo Falls is a charming and sweet escape to a homey southern dive. And for a frigid Yankee there are few things more appealing than a bit of southern warmth.

Half Asleep Upon Echo Falls will be available Feb. 14 on digital, CD, and teal-colored LP, with a limited first pressing of 250 copies, at the Karate Body Records webstore.
